Online Shopping – Can Fishing Shops Survive?

Fishing shops were once at the heart of their local communities and served as a meeting place for anglers as well as somewhere to purchase equipment and bait. The shops had an important social role but with the growth of online shopping many have struggled to survive. Other have continued to thrive so what has made such a difference to the fortunes of these retailers? Continue reading Online Shopping – Can Fishing Shops Survive?

Sling or Stroller – What’s Best?

Not so long ago the practice of baby wearing or carrying youngsters in slings had almost died out in this country. For many the idea was associated with the hippie lifestyle and most parents were keen to invest in one of the latest prams or strollers. Now baby slings are experiencing a significant revival with some parents never using a pram. So what is the best way to go? Continue reading Sling or Stroller – What’s Best?

Breast Screening for the Over 50’s

This week I received another unwelcome reminder of my age. An invitation to have my breasts screened arrived in the post. Women receive their first invitation to attend a free screening when they are between 50 and 52 years old.  Now I have to decide whether to attend the appointment. The Christmas Budget

Christmas can challenge anyone’s finances with the presents to buy, the food and perhaps a tree and decorations. Sadly, in an attempt to make Christmas the best that it can be, many people stretch themselves too far and end up struggling to pay for the festivities for the rest of the year. It really helps if you organise your finances in advance and you will certainly enjoy your shopping and the entire festive season more if you have the money to hand when you need it. What Never Goes out of Fashion?

Fashions come and go and brands hit the big time only to fall out of favour. Every season we are treated to a new colour palette and orange is the new black or some such nonsense.  Designers dictate what we will all be dying to wear or celebrities start new trends when they are pictured in something new, even if it is ridiculous. However, our most enduring brands and styles, the ones that never seem to go out of fashion, have largely been clothes that began life as workwear.  This does rather suggest that ultimately, practicality trumps all. Fitness and Your Future

It is truly scary to contemplate what a sedentary race we have become. The prevalence of obesity is the most obvious sign that something has gone horribly wrong but there also has to be a catalogue of health issues hiding in the shadows that will eventually raise their ugly heads. If we get any more inactive there is a chance that our species will evolve into a new lifeform that requires a Motability vehicle to get about. Like certain aquatic creatures before us, the process of evolution could see us losing our limbs! Continue reading Fitness and Your Future

How to find the best Value Flight

With the arrival of the budget airlines flying became much more affordable. Cheaper fares were available with the no fills operators and scheduled airlines were forced to lower their fares in the face of the competition. Are Meggings the next Big Thing?

sTitch leggings are causing a bit of a storm in the wake of their recent appearance on TV’s Dragon’s Den. The men’s leggings which have been dubbed “meggings” left quite an impression but failed to raise any investment as the infamous Dragons dismissed them as a joke. The panel of entrepreneurs has been wrong before, however, so do Meggings have legs? Continue reading Are Meggings the next Big Thing?

A New Hero

Last year I was about to purchase some tickets for a gig and began to wonder if I had been keeping my head in a bag. Queen had announced that they were touring and that the front man would be Adam Lambert. Queen were the one great oversight of my musical adventures. I had never seen them play and frankly I was so desperate to correct my error that I was going to go to that gig no matter who they had chosen to sing the songs. This was a good thing because my response to seeing the advertisement was Adam who? Continue reading A New Hero
